Anesthesia Care
Experienced and compassionate physicians and nurse anesthetists will take care of you before and during your surgery. All providers are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and most are also certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support.
Patients receive a thorough evaluation prior to the day of surgery as part of their appointment at the Preadmission Testing Centers at PVH and MCR. This can include consultation for complex medical disorders. Patients receive a final evaluation when they meet their anesthesiologist on the day of surgery.
All forms of anesthesia are available, including general anesthesia, nerve block anesthesia, and intravenous (IV) sedation. Your anesthesiologist will discuss the options with you the day of surgery.
A variety of advanced monitoring technologies are available during surgery, including brain-wave monitoring to detect and help prevent awareness during general anesthesia, as well as heart function monitors to maximize safety during the most demanding operations.
After surgery, the anesthesiologists or nurses monitor your recovery and are available to assist with critical care and pain management. A variety of nerve block techniques are available to help achieve the best possible pain control.
