Hyperbaric medicine at Poudre Valley Hospital
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) assists in the care of chronic wounds, infections, the elimination of toxic substances, and other medical problems. Patients receive hyperbaric oxygen therapy in comfortable, specially-designed chambers.
Patients can listen to music, take a nap, or watch TV or movies.
Hyperbaric refers to high pressure. While they lie inside the pressurized chambers, patients breathe 100 percent oxygen (natural air contains 21 percent oxygen). This additional oxygen helps heal injured tissue inside the body, improves healing of infections and the elimination of toxic substances, and stimulates the formation of more blood vessels.
The number of HBO treatments can vary a great deal based on your condition. Your doctor will discuss treatment details with you.
