Before weight-loss surgery and hospital stay, patients will be asked to:

Stop smoking (patients must be tobacco-free for at least 60 days prior to surgery).

Cut down on caffeine intake.

Stop taking certain medicines, including aspirin and anti-inflammatories, such as Advil, Motrin, Aleve.

Stop eating and drinking after midnight the day of surgery.
Patients will also need to pack a bag that includes a few necessities, as well as some nice-to-have things, such as:

Insurance card
-
Driver's license
-
Advance directives
-
List of all current medications
-
Eyeglasses, hearing aides, dentures (and their protective containers)
-
Toiletries, including toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, deodorant, makeup, etc.

Socks, slippers and robe
-
Comfortable clothes to wear home after surgery
-
Books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
Please leave all valuables at home.
