Answer: Established in 1995, we have performed over 3,000 weight-loss surgeries, including surgery for adolescents.
Question: Are the hospital and its surgeons designated as a Center of Excellence for bariatric surgery?
Answer: Yes, the Bariatric Center of the Rockies and our team of bariatric surgeons are so designated by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The hospital also has Center of Excellence designations from: Aetna®, Anthem®, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, CIGNA Healthcare of Colorado and UnitedHealthcare®.
Question: What special training do the doctors have?
Answer: Each of our surgeons is board certified in bariatric surgery.
Question: Is the staff specifically trained for this type of surgery?
Answer: Each member of the surgical team is specially trained in bariatric surgery.
Question: Can bariatric surgery be performed using laparoscopic techniques?
Answer: Most bariatric surgeries can be performed laparoscopically. However, each patient is different, so you'll need to discuss your particular requirements with your doctor.
Question: Can I be considered a candidate for bariatric surgery even though I have one or more associated health conditions related to my obesity?
Answer: Most patients, even with obesity-related conditions, are candidates for bariatric surgery. Our bariatric patient navigator will discuss your particular conditions with you.
Question: What are the benefits of having this surgery?
Answer: The benefits of weight-loss surgery include an increased life expectancy; improvement in and/or elimination of obesity-related conditions, such as type II diabetes, sleep apnea and hypertension; increased positive self-image and increased sex drive.
Question: What is the length of my anticipated hospital stay?
Answer: The length of your hospital stay is dependent upon your personal health and the specifics of your procedure. Typical hospital stays are one night for LAP-BAND® and two nights for gastric bypass.
Question: How will my eating habits change?

Question: What types of support group/after-care services do you provide?
Answer: Our team is here to support you well after your surgery with any questions or concerns you might have. In addition, we host support groups where you can meet other prospective patients and patients.
Question: What do you expect from me if I decide to have surgery?
Answer: Along with our help, we expect our patients to be committed to their new way of life-from eating right and increasing your physical activity to attending one of our support groups. All of this will help you be more successful in achieving your weight-loss goals.
