As our EMS partners transport the injured patient to us, our trauma team is activated to stand ready for the moment the patient arrives at our hospital. The trauma team is specially trained to provide a safe evaluation of the patient and identify all injuries. They also work efficiently to stabilize the patient and set treatment goals.
Because trauma treatment and rehabilitation is complex, there are many members on the trauma team who work closely across the care continuum.
Trauma Team This core team works to stabilize, evaluate and treat the patient:
- Trauma Surgeon
- Team Leader
- Anaesthetist
- Emergency Department Doctor
- Trauma Nurses
- Radiographers
- Technicians
- Laboratory Services
Depending on the injuries involved, more trauma specialists and team members may respond:
- Trauma Neurosurgeon
- Trauma Plastic Surgeon
- Radiologist
The trauma patient is seen each day by the trauma surgeon and a trauma case manager. The trauma surgeon oversees the care that is provided by consulting physicians, nurses, therapists, and allied health specialists. This system provides quality care and a smooth transition for a patient, from critical care to rehabilitation.
