Your Baby's Medical Team
Your baby will have a variety of members on his or her care team. Once your baby is a patient in the Special Care Nursery, your neonatologist and possibly your pediatrician will care for your baby. Rest assured that while your baby is in our SCN, he or she will truly get world-class care.
Neonatologists
Neonatologists are pediatricians with three additional years of training focused on the care of critically ill newborns. The neonatologists based at MCR are on the faculty of the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center (UCDHSC), and are members of the nationally renowned physician group that cares for newborns at The Children's Hospital in Denver. Seven other neonatologists with the UCDHSC provide additional expertise and support. All neonatology care is offered in partnership with your infant's pediatrician to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care once your infant is healthy enough to leave the SCN.
Pediatricians
Pediatricians have specialized training to care for babies and children. Your pediatrician works closely with the neonatologists to care for your baby and communicates with you throughout your baby's hospitalization.
Nurses
The nurses who work in the Special Care Nursery receive special training to meet the needs of all late preterm babies as well as babies who may need extra help after birth.
Certified Lactation Counselors
Certified lactation counselors are also an essential part of your baby's care team.
