The Cleft Clinic at Poudre Valley Hospital
We understand that learning your baby has a cleft lip or palate can be very difficult. Rest assured that our entire team of specially trained and experienced cleft specialists is here for you.
Located in the Children's Therapy Services office just south of Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, the Cleft Clinic is made up of over 13 team members dedicated to caring for these unique patients. The nationally recognized team was established in 1997.
Children born with cleft lip and/or palate are often followed through to adulthood by their cleft team. In addition to regular appointments, such as speech therapy, the children typically come to the Cleft Clinic for an annual appointment, where they see all their specialists in one visit. The team assesses their development and addresses any ongoing needs. The timing of different interventions can thus be properly and optimally coordinated.
According to the Cleft Palate Foundation, cleft lip and palate are the most common birth defect in the United States. One of every 594 newborns-more than 6,800 U.S. children per year-is affected by cleft lip and/or palate. You are not alone, and we are here to help every step of the way.
The PVH Cleft Clinic is registered with the American Cleft and Craniofacial Association. For more information or to ask questions about cleft lip and palate, call the PVH Cleft Palate Team coordinator at 970.495.8780 or email her at cleftclinic@pvhs.org.
The Cleft Palate Foundation also has many comprehensive resources for parents like facts sheets, an informative video on how to feed your baby, bottle adaptations and more.
