Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your baby! This is an exciting time for many families and we are honored to care for you during your pregnancy and childbirth. Each year, Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies welcomes over 3,000 babies into the world.
Our goal is to help families have the most personal and comfortable experience possible at this exciting time. Our nursing staff will provide you and your baby with expertise, compassion and comfort based on decades of experience.
PVH and MCR are two of only three hospitals in Colorado to be designated as Baby-Friendly hospitals. They each follow the Tens Steps to Successful Breastfeeding as set forth by the Baby-Friendly Initiative.
Both PVH and MCR follow a patient- and family-centered care philosophy. This means you will have many support options at PVH or MCR for your birthing and post-partum experience. For all births, our goal is to keep mom and baby together as much as possible in those first precious days, so you can learn to take care of your baby with the help of a compassionate care team.
Your labor, delivery, and recovery will all take place in a comfortable, home-like private suite. Each suite features a TV, CD player, complimentary movies and internet access, sleeper bench/couch, private bathroom with shower, access to a Jacuzzi tub and a refrigerator. A kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator is available for your support person. Laboring mothers should check with a nurse before eating or drinking anything.
We have state-of-the-art equipment needed for your baby's birth, such as fetal monitor to measure your contractions, the baby's heart rate and other vital signs.
We strive to make your birth personal and as comfortable as possible.
About two hours after giving birth, you and your baby will move from your birthing suite to your own private recovery room.
If a Cesarean section or C-section is necessary, there are operating rooms and a recovery room on the birthing units at both hospitals. In following the patient- and family-centered care model, PVHS allows visitors in your labor room whenever you choose.
The neonatal intensive care unit at PVH is the is the only one of its kind between Denver and Billings, Montana. The intensive care unit staff routinely cares for babies born from 28 to 36 weeks gestation, as well as those with respiratory problems, infections, low blood-sugar and jaundice.
The special care nursery at MCR routinely cares for babies born as early as 34 weeks gestation.
