Summertime means that it's time for sunscreen. There's a lot of conflicting information out there about sunscreen and what the safest products are for children. At Peakview Pediatrics, we like to keep it simple:
- Use hats, sunglasses and SPF clothing. Swim shirts help prevent sunburns on shoulders and necks.
- Use a sunscreen with SPF 30+.
- Use hypoallergenic sunscreen.
- Reapply at least every two hours, especially when your kids are swimming or sweating.
- Infants of any age can and should use sunscreen. Be sure to avoid putting it on their hands when they are constantly putting hands in their mouths.
Be sure to visit the American Academy of Pediatrics' HealthyChildren.org page for more detailed information about sunscreen safety.
