In Brian's words
"I attributed my fatigue to being overweight and over 50 years old. When I found out I had an irregular heartbeat, I did my research. I learned there was an electrophysiologist at Heart Center of the Rockies, Dr. Robert Kiser, who had a great reputation. I met him and we connected. I quickly learned that the best heart care is right here in northern Colorado. I decided to have the procedure done here and have no regrets.
"Today, I'm active again and my weight is down. The doctors have taken me off of my heart and diabetes medication because I no longer need it. My quality of life is so much better and the constant worry about my heart is gone. Now I have more energy to do the things I love - like landscape around my new home."
Brian's advice to others
- Being tired all of the time isn't normal. If you don't feel good, go see your doctor. Don't wait.
- Listen to what the doctors tell you.
- Choose your doctor wisely. Do your research.
- Get screened for heart disease.
More about Brian
A former Penn State football player and local business and real estate entrepreneur, Brian was feeling tired all the time. Massive headaches brought him to the Poudre Valley Hospital emergency room, where he learned he was having a stroke.
During an appointment with his family doctor several months later, it was discovered that Brian was experiencing atrial fibrillation (A-fib), a condition that causes irregular electrical signals to shock the upper chambers of the heart, making it quickly and randomly contract. People in A-fib often don't feel symptoms. It is, however, directly linked to stroke.
Brian went to see Dr. Thomas Downs at Heart Center of the Rockies, where he was told he was a candidate for an ablation procedure that would help regulate his heart.
