Poudre Valley Health System is a trusted resource during community crises and dedicates a Emergency Preparedness Coordinator to maintain our expertise and resources for disaster response readiness.
National disasters such as the 9/11 attacks in New York and natural disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have increased community and government awareness of the importance of hospital preparedness. As a result, the Joint Commission and other hospital and federal regulatory agencies have increased the number of standards a hospital must meet for major emergencies.
Hospital preparedness includes assessing for and minimizing potential risks, ensuring access to supplies, and training staff - including those who will be called to work in a "Command Center" - on how to manage large scale disaster incidents. Planning for recovery of operations is also an important component of emergency preparedness and response.
With Medical Center of the Rockies' innovative design for the most advanced trauma response, Trauma Center of the Rockies is also at the forefront of emergency preparedness. With facility layout and capabilities for mass casualty, special decontamination units and dedicated experts, PVHS provides our communities a partner to rely on during major emergencies.
Emergency preparedness involves more than response agencies - it involves every community member! For more on how you can make your home and family emergency ready, please visit www.ready.gov
