Kids can get a little TLC for their favorite stuffed animals or dolls from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 17 at the inaugural Teddy Bear Hospital event at the new Greeley Emergency and Surgery Center.
Parents and children alike will be able to learn about being healthy, staying safe and preventing injuries at the event. Emergency room doctors, nurses and technicians will be on hand to perform mock procedures on the stuffed critters and dolls.
The free event is part of the community open house celebration at the University of Colorado Health’s Greeley Emergency and Surgery Center at 6906 10th St., which is east of the King Soopers Marketplace at 71st Avenue and 10th Street.
“The Teddy Bear Hospital event is the perfect opportunity for kids to experience and see an emergency department without the fear factor of being involved in a real emergency situation. They also get to see how compassionate the nurses and doctors are when they are caring for their patients,” said Julie Lester, nurse manager of the new emergency center. “We’re excited to begin the Teddy Bear Hospital tradition in Greeley.”
The free event will include other exploration and hands-on activities provided by the following agencies and organizations:
The first 100 kids to attend the event also will receive a free mini teddy bear.
The community open house, held at the same time as the Teddy Bear Hospital, will give Weld County residents a chance to get a sneak preview of the emergency and surgery center. Attendees will get to tour the facility, meet the staff, learn about the services that will be offered in addition to emergency care and register to win a free iPad.
The center is scheduled to open Nov. 26.
