Kids can receive TLC for their favorite stuffed animals or dolls from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 9 at the fourth annual Teddy Bear Hospital at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.
Parents and children alike will learn about being healthy, staying safe and preventing injuries. Emergency room doctors, nurses and technicians will perform mock procedures on the stuffed critters and dolls.
"The Teddy Bear Hospital gives children a chance to experience and see the emergency department without the fear factor of being involved in a real emergency situation. They also get to see how compassionate we are when we care for their teddy bears and dolls," said Ramona Perkins, a staff nurse in the emergency department at MCR. "Plus, it allows the emergency staff to give back to the community, which we love."
The free event will include games along with booths and activities provided by the following agencies and organizations:
- Loveland Fire Department
- Loveland Police Department
- Colorado Chapter of American Association of Neuroscience Nurses
- Poudre Valley Hospital Emergency Medical Services
- Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services
- Healthy Kids Club
- Medical Center of the Rockies Pet Therapy
- Air Link at Medical Center of the Rockies
Slapshot, the mascot for the Colorado Eagles hockey team, will make a guest appearance to greet fans from 12:30-2 p.m.
The event includes refreshments and will be held at the emergency department ambulance entrance area on the east side of the hospital, which is located at 2500 Rocky Mountain Avenue, northwest of the intersection of Interstate 25 and U.S. 34. Signs will guide visitors to the location.
