The final hospital stop during your pacemaker implantation process is the recovery area. Here, you can expect that:
- Your shoulder may become sore as the local anesthetic wears off. We will provide you with medicine for any pain you experience.
- We will place an arm sling on you to remind you not to use the affected arm.
- You will be kept on bed rest for a minimum of four hours. However, you will be able to sit up in bed and eat or drink.
- You will probably be admitted to the hospital for an overnight stay. If the physician has discussed discharging you the same day as the procedure, you must arrange to have someone available to drive you home after your procedure. Do not plan to drive or operate machinery for the remainder of the day.
